BARBERTON, Ohio - A Summit County murder case, filled with twists and turns, will soon be the plot of an upcoming movie.
The film will be called "Anatomy of an Aftermath" and centers around Melinda Elkins Dawson. Her mother, Judith Johnson, was raped and murdered in 1998 and her 6-year-old niece also attacked.
Initially, police arrested Dawson's husband, Clarence Elkins, but Dawson knew he didn't commit the crimes. It took seven years to prove it, but Dawson finally did. She obtained a cigarette butt from Earl Mann, Johnson's former neighbor, who also happened to be in prison with Elkins.
Mann's DNA matched that from the crime scene and he eventually pleaded guilty to the crimes.
Now, a producer and screenwriter are developing a script and plan to shoot parts of the film in Barberton, Akron and Magnolia.
No word on when the filming will begin or when the movie is expected to debut.
