Akron hosts its first 'Bike Party' ride this Friday evening at Lock 3

AKRON, Ohio - Hoping to build on the success of bike party rides in Sacramento and San Jose, Calif., Akron will hold its first bike party this Friday.

“I rode in a bike party in San Jose in February and instantly fell in love,” said organizer Dave Massary. “They have monthly rides with up to 5,000 riders. The Department of Transportation even joins in.”

The ride is very casual and for riders of all skill levels. It begins this Friday evening April 18. Cyclists will gather at Lock 3 at 7:30 p.m. and roll on to the streets of Akron at 8 p.m.

A route around Akron neighborhoods will end back at Lock 3 later that evening.

“Evening rides through the city are a great way to start the weekend,” he said.

The inaugural ride will be the first of six this year. The rides will take place each third Friday of the month through September.

Massary echoed the motto printed on his invitation, “Bring lights, Bring water, Bring Music.”
