Akron police will send 30 to 35 officers to Cleveland during the Republican National Convention to assist the Cleveland Police Department, according to Lt. Rick Edwards with Akron police.

The City of Cleveland and funds from the RNC reportedly paid for this, so it will cost Akron taxpayers nothing, according to Edwards.

Authorities say the officers received fee training by the RNC, which will also provide equipment such as bicycles, gear to help with protests and motorcycles to escort dignitaries.

Edwards said this will not cause a police shortage in Akron and that residents can expect the same amount of protection that they would normally have.
