AKRON, Ohio - Two workers at Akron's recreation centers are under investigation for possibly mishandling money.
The investigation is being handled by the Summit County's Department of Internal Auditing and the Akron Police Department.
"Earlier this year, it came to our attention that employees at some of our recreation centers may not be handling cash transactions in accordance with our established procedures," Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic said in a news release on Tuesday.
One employee is on administrative leave with pay and the other is still working.
Plusquellic said there was a similar issue in 2003 at Good Park golf course, but since then, the internal auditor and other finance employees retired. They were not replaced.
