Akron man who failed to register as sex offender charged with rape

STOW, Ohio - An Akron man previously found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender in Summit County has been charged with rape by Stow police.

Officers arrested Darryl Johnson, 37, on charges of rape and gross sexual imposition earlier in July.

The victim, a 15-year old Stow girl, told police she was raped by Johnson twice in the month of April after a friend of hers told a counselor at Stow-Munroe Falls of the incidents, our news partners at Stow Patch reported .

Johnson's charges have since been bound over to the Summit County Common Pleas Court.

In 2011, Johnson was indicted by the Summit County grand jury on charges of failing to register his address with the Summit County Sheriff's Office as a sex offender. He was charged with a similar crime in 2003, 2005, and 2007.

Johnson was originally charged in 2000 with rape and corruption of a minor, where he pleaded not guilty to the rape charge but eventually pleaded guilty to the corruption charge. He was sentenced to 12 months in jail and ordered to register his address as a sex offender with the Summit County Sheriff's Office each year for 10 years.
