Thomas Moore, 34, of Akron was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday for robbing a 73-year-old wheelchair-bound man, according to the Summit County Prosecutor's Office.

Valontai Buchanan, 18, a co-defendant in the case, held a knife to the victim, knocked him out of his wheelchair and demanded money, James Pollack, spokesperson for the prosecutor's office reported.

Moore, who knew the 73-year-old man and that he kept money in a lockbox, met with Buchanan, of Akron,  and both planned to rob the victim in his apartment, according to Pollack.

Moore pled guilty to aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, according to the prosecutor's office.

"I hope that the eight years of his confinement behind bars will teach him some empathy for those who are physically confined," Deputy Chief Counsel Margaret Scott said.

Buchanan pled guilty to aggravated robbery on March 29 and is scheduled for sentencing on May 3, Pollack reported.
