Wife target of Valentine's Day pipe bomb, Alliance police say

Husband charged with attempted murder

ALLIANCE, Ohio - An Alliance man's estranged wife was the likely target of a pipe bomb left underneath a truck on Valentine's Day, police said.

A man discovered the device attached to his truck on West Main Street on Feb. 14 and pulled it loose before officers arrived. Alliance police said it was a pipe bomb containing black powder and BBs. It was about 2 feet long and wrapped in red tissue paper.

The live pipe bomb was disarmed without being detonated by the Summit County Sheriff's Bomb Squad.

On Thursday, police arrested 32-year-old David "Turtle" McCoy on two counts of attempted aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated arson and one count of illegal manufacturing of explosives. He was taken into custody without incident and his bond was set at $500,000.

Alliance police said they believe McCoy was intending to kill his wife and the man who owned the truck.
