Troopers suspect alcohol to blame for crash that injured 4 in Lawrence Township

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Alcohol is the likely cause of a single-car crash in Lawrence Township Sunday that sent four people to area hospitals, troopers with the Canton post of the State Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened around 3:29 a.m. on Erie Avenue, just north of Bonham Avenue.

Troopers said the driver, Corey Ramey, 22, from Massillon, was traveling northbound in a Chevy Cruze when he went off the right side of the road, hit a utility pole and flipped before striking a tree.

Ramey, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.

Passenger Nathan Richards, 22, was partially ejected from the car and flown to an Akron hospital by helicopter. Troopers said he was talking when they came to interview him, but the severity of his injuries is not clear.

Two other passengers who were sitting in the back of the car, Brittany Winter, 22, and Karl Prusser, 23, were both wearing seatbelts and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
