The best laid plans go up in smoke, at least that's the case for a Waynesburg man who was arrested when a massive marijuana grow operation raided by a Stark County narcotics unit.
Douglas Stevens was arrested by authorities after a raid on his property uncovered over 350 marijuana plants being cultivated both indoors and outdoors. The raid took place in Waynesburg, a rural area southeast of Canton.
The grow operation included extensive lighting, irrigation and nutrients systems, according to authorities. Plants were found to be in various stages of growth, and Stevens had a THC extraction lab, which included butane tanks used in manufacturing.
As a result of the raid, Stevens has been charged with trafficking in drugs, illegal cultivation of marijuana, assembly and possession of chemicals for the manufacturing of drugs and possession of drugs. All charges are felonies of various degrees, according to court documents.
The raid comes after the state passed legislation that makes it the 25th to legalize a comprehensive medical marijuana program.
