MASSILLON, Ohio - Perry Local Schools administrators in Stark County opened up the doors of Pfeiffer Intermediate School Sunday to allow students and parents to meet with grief counselors following the death of one of their teachers.
Matt McLeese, 6th grade science and social studies teacher, died in a car accident Saturday in Canton.
Guidance counselors and clinical psychologists were on hand to help students deal with the loss. Students sat with counselors in McLeese's classroom to share stories and memories of their teacher.
"Being in the classroom and sharing and sitting in their seats has just allowed them to come together and to share that and to prepare for what lies ahead," said Perry Local District clinical counselor Margaret DeLillo-Storey.
Students were also able to make personalized cards for Matt's family and sign a large banner in memory of their teacher.
Even though Perry Local School District is on spring break, school officials felt it was important to take action now for students and parents before school resumes on April 1.
