PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A 77-year-old woman was killed when her car collided with a tractor trailer on Monday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the two-vehicle crash that happened at about 1:10 p.m. on Faircrest Street SW west of Perry Dr. SW in Perry Township.
Donald Johnson, 63, of Sherrodsville, was driving a 1997 International semi-tractor trailer traveling east on Faircrest Street.
Joanne Howell, 77, of Massillon was driving a 2008 Chrysler Sebring traveling west on Faircrest Street.
Troopers said that Howell's car went left of center and struck the semi in the left front. She was seriously injured and taken to Aultman Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Johnson was not injured.
Howell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
As a result of the crash, approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled on the roadway. Perry Township Fire department contacted the EPA and the Stark County HAZMAT crews to help in the cleanup.
This crash remains under investigation.
