Massillon man, 79, crashes twice before flipping car in Tuscarawas Township

TUSCARAWAS TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A 79-year-old Massillon man is in the hospital after crashing twice on Rt. 172 in Tuscarawas Township and flipping his car.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the driver, James Myricks, 79, of Massillon, was driving westbound on Rt. 172 near Kenyon Avenue when he hit a Chevy Tahoe, sending it into a utility pole.

The driver wasn't hurt.

Less than three miles later, authorities said Myricks drove off the left side of Rt. 172 near Alabama Avenue and hit two utility poles before his vehicle flipped.

Myricks was then taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers said alcohol is not a likely factor in the wreck. It's unknown if a health issue contributed to the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
