Canton man accused of shooting brother-in-law in head on loose

CANTON, Ohio - Canton police are looking for a man accused of shooting his brother-in-law twice in the head early Tuesday morning.

Cpt. David Davis with the Canton Police Department said a warrant was signed on Sterling D. Mitchell, 46, who faces two felonious assault charges.

Davis said Mitchell shot William F. Pleasant, 18, and Christopher Trent, 37, at about 12:11 a.m. in front of a home, located in the 2400 block of Penn Place NE.

Mitchell, whose sister is married to Pleasant, fired shots through the rear window of Trent's 2001 Cadillac, Davis said. Pleasant was shot twice in the head and a bullet brazed Trent's torso.

Mitchell is also accused of chasing Trent into the house and attempting to assault him before driving away in Trent's car.

Pleasant and Trent were transported to area hospitals. Police said their injuries are non-life threatening.

Mitchel is still at large. His last known address is 1452 Ninth St. NW.
