Two of Canton's four-legged officers often accompany their two-legged counterparts on patrols, helping clear houses during narcotics raids and lend a paw to officers on duty.

Now they're getting potentially life-saving body armor.

Tuko and Diesel are the recipients of charitable donations from Vested Interest in K9's, a non-profit that provides bullet and stab resistant vests to dogs in law enforcement. To date, the non-profit has provided nearly 2,100 agencies in all 50 states with the vests.

Tuko is a 21-month-old German Shepherd who came to Canton from Hungary. He was donated to the department by K9s4cops. Typically, Tuko works the night shift and spends his days sleeping who often assists with patrols and narcotics actions.

Diesel is a 21-month-old Dutch Shepard from Warren, OH. Like Tuko, he works both patrol and narcotics. Police say he also works with the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force.
