Three children and their mother were found safe in Canton after an Amber Alert was issued in the Stark County area.

Police said the children—10-year-old Brayden, 6-year-old Carter and 12-year-old Colton—were last seen with their mother, Tara Rooks, in the area of Butterbridge Road NW in Canal Fulton around 5:15 p.m. Monday.

According to police, Rooks was given permission by the children's father, who currently has custody, to take the kids for the weekend. She was supposed to return them on Sunday evening, but she didn't. She did send threatening messages about committing suicide. The father told police about the messages on Monday.

According to authorities, Rooks attempted suicide in the past and made threats of suicide. She was described as a 38-year-old white female who is 5-foot 3-inches tall and weighs 175 pounds. She has blonde hair and brown eyes.

The Amber Alert has now been canceled. It was issued for Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Holmes, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas, and Wayne counties at noon Tuesday.
