24-year-old man killed in hit-and-run crash in Canton

Police are looking for the car involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Canton. 

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at the intersection of Market Avenue and 30th Street at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday.

Christian Thornton, 24, was crossing Market Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene after the crash. 

Thornton's roommate, Tre Brink, told newsnet5.com the man had was walking home from a job he had just started when he was killed. He leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter.

"I don't know how you can live with the regret that you've just taken a human life and honestly leaving the scene makes you a big coward," Tre Brink said.

Jackson Township police were chasing a robbery suspect around the same timeframe of the crash overnight, but called it off after five to 10 minutes without arresting the driver.

According to Jackson Township police chief Mark Brink, a man went into Spee-D-Foods on Everhard Road and robbed the clerk at knife point.

Police found the car they believed to be the suspect's and chased it until speeds reached about 100 mph. It ended about seven to eight blocks from the fatal crash site. Police later told newsnet5.com they did not believe the two incidents were related.

Police say the car involved in the fatal crash is a 2000-2005 Chevy Impala with damage to the front left end and the fog lamp area. The color of the car is unknown.

Area repair garages and auto stores are asked to report anyone purchasing parts to repair fresh damage to the front left of a 2000-2005 Chevy Impala, specifically the fog lamp and headlight assembly area.
