TROY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Authorities are investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting where a 28-year-old suspect was shot to death in Troy Township, Richland County.
The incident happened around 8:24 p.m. Sunday night on Mill Run Road, which is south of Lexington, Ohio.
Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Mill Run Road for a domestic violence call after the wife and mother of the suspect, Brian Garber, 28, claimed he had assaulted them.
Sheriff’s deputies said Garber left the scene before crews arrived but then returned an hour later.
That’s when deputies opened fire, striking the suspect multiple times.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office responded and pronounced Garber dead at the scene. His autopsy will take place Tuesday at the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A Richland County supervisor and the three deputies, who were involved in the shooting, are on administrative leave for eight days, which is protocol. Their names were not released.
It’s not yet known if the suspect was armed or what occurred for shots to be fired.
The investigation has been handed over to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
