Unemployed Kent-area residents receive job search tips from nationally-renowned author Abby Kohut

KENT,Ohio - Just a few buildings down from where Kent's Haymaker Parkway turns into West Main Street a recently unemployed man, Thomas Hearn, found himself fighting for a new job.

Recently parting ways with Medical Mutual three months ago, Hearn held himself tall in a parking lot loaned out to founder Diana Miller's Community Job Club, Inc. Miller, in a partnership with local newspaper, Record-Courier, invited nationally-renowned author and job search consultant Abby Kohut to speak to a gathering of unemployed men and women, hoping for an advantage in their job search.

Hearn found himself tweaking his Linkedin profile with Miller's help. Kohut said that 97 percent of employers are now using that social media site to find new employees.

"I've been on Linkedin since 2008, but didn't use it like everybody's using it today," Hearn said.

At noon on Thursday it was more of pep rally for job seekers finding tips with a speech filled with fresh ideas from Kohut, a former recruiter-turned consultant.

"Most people aren't fortunate enough to find work at something they love and have passion for. One of the things I do is work with job seekers to help them take that passion and turn it into money," Kohut said.
