A Streetsboro man was arrested with nearly $100,000 worth of methamphetamine, according to estimates by the police, in a backpack when his car was searched by members of the Portage County Drug Task Force.

Gregory James Shepper Jr., 34, was arrested on an outstanding felony indictment for larceny on Thursday. During his arrest, detectives summoned a Narcotic Detection K-9 from Streetsboro police. When the K-9 alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, they searched Shepper's vehicle, finding about one kilogram of meth and a undetermined amount of U.S. currency.

Following the arrest of Shepper, detectives acquired a search warrant for Streetsboro residence. Authorities found smaller amounts of what is suspected to be meth, drug paraphernalia and three firearms.

Sherriff David Doak has said that investigations into Shepper's narcotic activity has been ongoing for several months. Shepper is being held at Portage County Jail on charges of possession of meth and trafficking in meth. The Task Force has presented the case to the Portage County Prosecutor's Office and the United States Attorney's Office for charge considerations.
