Ravenna police investigate fire, burglary, attack at Fortis College

RAVENNA, Ohio - Ravenna police and fire officials are investigating a bizarre incident that occurred at a local college early Friday morning that resulted in a school employee being hospitalized.

Officers responded to Fortis College on Enterprise Parkway around 6:24 a.m. Friday for a report of a burglary.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a school employee who claimed to have been attacked inside of the school. The woman went on to tell police that a small fire had started in the hallway during the attack.

The victim told police that she was able to escape the building and run to the Paris Healthcare building for help. Police said Paris Healthcare employees then went back to the school and extinguished the flames.

The victim was transported to the hospital to be treated for burns. Her injuries do not appear to be life threatening, police said.

The interior and exterior of the college building were checked, but police did not find a suspect.

The fire, burglary and attack are under investigation. The evidence collected at the scene will be submitted to the State Fire Marshall Lab for analysis.
