Ravenna man found sleeping with a shotgun in a home that police say he broke into

RAVENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Dustin Sellers Applegate, 31, of Ravenna was being held in the Portage County jail after sheriff deputies arrested him in a home on Jean Drive in Ravenna Township early Monday morning.

Portage County Sheriff David Doak said the homeowner called and told them he just got home from work and found Applegate sleeping in his bed, wearing the homeowner's clothes with the homeowner's shotgun laying next to him on the bed.

Doak said Applegate then woke up and as he reached for the shotgun, the homeowner grabbed it and detained him until deputies arrived.

Police said their investigation determined that Applegate had forced his way into the residence and was putting items from the home in a backpack when he apparently decided to take a nap.

Applegate is charged with Aggravated Burglary. He was to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon at the Ravenna Courthouse.
