Two men were arrested for making meth in their mobile home, according to the Portage County Drug Task Force.

Officials said 22-year-old Austin T. Nicholas and 23-year-old Richard H. Moran were arrested and booked in Portage County Jail for charges of illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine, illegal possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture drugs, and child endangering.

The charges followed an incident that occurred Sunday night in the 10000 block of State Route 700 in Mantua Township.

According to Portage County Sheriff David Doak, deputies were trying to serve a warrant at the residence when they saw two men inside a mobile home on Lot 13 in the process of shaking a 2-liter bottle, a method used in making meth.

Deputies made contact with the men and discovered several plastic bottles and chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Deputies evacuated the mobile home, which included two children.

The Portage County Drug Task Force was called to the scene where they found an active meth lab which had to be neutralized before any clean up could occur. Garretsville Fire was also called out as a precaution due to the highly volatile state of the lab and the potential for fire and explosion.

Officials said Job and Family Services was called and made aware of the living conditions where the children lived.
