Letter sent home after confirmed case of MRSA at Waterloo Middle School

ATWATER, Ohio - A Portage County middle school confirmed on Friday that a student has a case of MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant staph infection.

Waterloo Middle School sent a letter home to parents informing them that someone within the school community has the infection.

The letter also said the Waterloo Local School District is working to disinfect parts of the school.

"Staph is present everywhere. It is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact, most often through openings in the skin such as cuts and scrapes," the letter said.

Symptoms of MRSA include fever, chest pain, cough, fatigue, headache and rash.

The school district said parents should contact a doctor if students develop pimples of boils that do not heal.
