KENT, Ohio - There were watch parties all across northeast Ohio Friday night filled with Kent State fans cheering on their Golden Flashes in the MAC Championship Game.
"The turnout tonight is great and it's a great environment to be in," said Joe Joltin, general manager of Panini's Bar and Grill in Kent. Fans started filling up his place a couple of hours before the game began.
"We're really excited," said one KSU senior. "We've never experienced anything like it before. So it's great that it's happening in our senior year."
In fact, it's been 40 years since Kent State has appeared in a football championship game. Not many fans at Panini's, if any, could remember that far back.
"When I was going here they weren't very good," said a 1992 graduate, "so I'm very excited to see what they're doing."
