Gas leak dismisses students from class early at Ravenna High School

RAVENNA, Ohio - A gas leak in Ravenna has forced evacuation Monday afternoon at a local high school.

Officials from the Ravenna Fire Department said crews struck a gas line around 12:30 p.m. outside of the Robinson Medical Arts Building and Professional Center, located on N. Chestnut Street., not far from the Ravenna VA Outpatient Clinic and Ravenna High School.

Firefighters said the gas line was struck while crews were installing a new sidewalk.

The superintendent of the Ravenna School District later said the Dominion Gas Company was notified and them to evacuate the school around 1:40 p.m. The students' parents were also notified.

The leak has been stopped. No one was hurt or transported.
