RAVENNA TWP, Ohio - The Portage County Sheriff's Department arrested a Cleveland man for robbing a store in Ravenna Township Saturday.
Police said 25-year-old Jawuan Terry Williams of Cleveland was arrested and charged for an aggravated robbery at the Cashland store on State Route 59.
Around 8:30 a.m. Williams approached an employee of the as she arrived for work to open the store. When she opened the door, Williams came from around the building and followed her in. Williams brandished a semi automatic handgun and ordered the employee to empty an undisclosed amount of money from the safe. When a second employee arrived for work, Williams to fled out the back door.
A deputy was in the area at the time and checked the surrounding residential area. The deputy found Williams and took him into custody without incident.
At the time of his arrest, Williams was no longer in possession of the handgun. Due to the concerns for the safety of the residents in the area, the Portage County Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) was activated. A search of the area was conducted and a loaded handgun was recovered that matched the description of the one use by Williams.
Williams has been charged with aggravated robbery and will be arraigned on Monday, March 18 1:15 p.m. at the Portage County Courthouse. He is currently being held without bond at the Portage County Jail.
The Cashland employee was not injured during the robbery.
Members from the Kent, Streetsboro, Aurora, Ravenna City, Ravenna Township, and Brimfield Fire Department responded to assist in the search as part of the Portage County USAR Team.
