A 17-year-old high school student has been charged in connection with the death of a Kent State University student.

According to Kent police, the Stow teen has been charged with delinquency by aggravated murder after the Sunday afternoon shooting.

Kent police say the shooting happened at 4:13 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of E. Main Street. Officers responding to the shooting found 18-year-old Nicholas Massa of Westlake dead at the scene.

According to Kent police Lt. Mike Lewis, Massa was visiting friends in an apartment on the third floor of the Ryan Place apartments when three men wearing bandanas charged into the apartment. Massa, a freshman managerial marketing major, was shot during a robbery.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim right now, just a terrible tragedy. I met with the family last night. I spoke with them again this morning. This is something no parent should ever have to go through," Lewis said.

The suspect, who newsnet5.com is not naming at this time because he is a  juvenile, fled the scene but was later caught with the help of Stow police.

Police are still looking for two other people possibly connected to the shooting.

The 17-year-old suspect, who is a student at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, is scheduled to appear in Portage County Juvenile Court Tuesday morning.

District superintendent, Tom Bratten, released a statement on Monday afternoon and said counselors are on hand for students.

"The Stow City School's resource officer is presently on duty at the high school and the Stow Police Department is also aware of the situation. The Stow Police Department will have an increased presence at the Stow schools as a purely precautionary measure," Bratten said.
