Troopers: Man killed after car struck by wrong-way driver on I-76 in Wadsworth

WADSWORTH TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A man was killed after troopers said his car was struck head-on by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 76 in Medina County.

The crash happened at about 6:50 p.m. Monday near the 9 mile marker in Wadsworth Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said 22-year-old Justen Russell of Wadsworth drove his Scion TC westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-76, and collided with a Chevy Impala driven by 57-year-old Robert Merold of Lake Milton in Mahoning County.

According to the patrol, Merold was taken to Medina Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Russell was taken to Akron General Hospital for treatment. His condition is not known at this time.

Investigators are trying to figure out why Russell was on the wrong side of the highway.
