MONTVILLE TWP., Ohio - A teenage driver was killed and and two teenage passengers were seriously hurt in a head-on crash in Montville Township around 10:20 p.m. Sunday.
Police said an SUV driven by Jeremy Goodrich traveled left of center and hit the teenager's car on River Styx Road just south of Turnberry Drive.
The teenage driver, Katherine Babak, 16, of Bath Township, died at the scene. "She was an emerging leader," said Revere High School Principal Phillip King. Babak would have been a junior when school started in the fall. She was supposed to try out to keep her spot on the golf team on Monday.
Goodrich, 26, of Rittman, and the teen's passengers — Valerie Snyder, 15, from Akron and Earlena Couch, 16, from Montville Township — were transported to Medina Hospital, then flown to area trauma centers, according to Montville Police Chief Terry Grice.
Goodrich was in fair condition on Monday afternoon, a hospital spokesperson said.
The hospital spokesperson says Sndyer remains in critical condition.
The Couch family released this statement Monday: "We ask that everyone pray for everyone involved."
The family of Babak released this statement regarding the death of 16-year-old Babak:
"She (Katherine Babak) was a great girl who had a heart of gold. She will greatly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Valerie and Earlena’s family. We ask everyone to pray for them, as out little girl is no longer her."
Both vehicles came to a rest in the road with heavy damage on the driver side.
The road reopened just after 2 a.m. Monday.
The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
