Prayer service Monday for Brunswick teens killed in crash one year ago

BRUNSWICK - It has been one year since four Brunswick High School teens were killed in a horrific car crash that left one survivor.

The fatal crash happened just after midnight on June 3, 2012 killing Blake Bartchak, 17, Jeffrey Chaya, 18, Kevin Fox, 18, and Lexi Poerner, 16.

Julia Romito, now 18, was the sole survivor.

Chaya's westbound Cavalier went airborne after crossing the tracks on Boston Road, east of Boone Road. The tracks rise abruptly from both sides of the roadway. The car landed, and Jeffrey lost control, veering right and left before slamming into a tree and flipping on its roof.

The patrol report said Jeffrey and his front-passenger, Blake, wore their seatbelts. Julia, who was sitting behind Blake, also wore her seatbelt. Lexi, who was sitting in the middle of the backseat, and Kevin, who was seated behind Jeffrey, did not wear their seat belts, the report said. Kevin had been thrown from the car.

A prayer service for the teens will be held Monday, June 3, 2013 at 7 p.m. at Brunswick's Saint Ambrose Church.
