Interstate 76 reopened after it was closed between Route 3 and State Route 57 in both directions due to a SWAT situation, Wadsworth Police Department reported on Wednesday.

Police said just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, a man entered the Wayside Market in Seville, Ohio. He showed a gun and demanded fuel for his car which was parked outside at a pump.

The suspect threatened the clerk and several customers with the gun, police reported. The clerk activated the pumps and the suspect demanded the clerk leave the store with him. The clerk refused and the suspect left the store, taking beer and cigarettes with him. He then drove north on Route 3 towards I-76.

Responding officers from Seville police said they located the suspect's car as it turned east on I-76 and conducted a stop. The suspect pulled to the side of the road, but refused to follow any directions given to him by the police officers.

Police said, as a precaution, both lanes of I-76 were shut down between Route 3 and SR 57. Officers from Seville, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Medina County Sheriff's Office, Wadsworth police, Montville police, and others assisted at the scene.

Officers tried to talk to the suspect, but he refused to acknowledge them, police reported. After about 45 minutes, the suspect got out of his car and, while standing in the doorway, began to urinate. At that time, he was arrested by police and a K-9. A loaded .45 caliber handgun, beer and cigarettes were found in the car.

The suspect was identified as Brett D. Filous, 35, of Lodi. Filous was taken into custody and transported to the Medina Hospital for treatment and observation, police said.

Filous is currently in Medina County Jail on a charge of aggravated robbery, according to police. Additional charges will be determined after a consultation with Prosecutor Dean Holman's office. Th

Note: The suspect was originally identified by police as Brett Fifous. This was a misspelling and has been changed in the story.
