Medina says parent pulled gun in school lot

A 44-year-old male parent was arrested Friday afternoon in the Medina High School parking lot after he was accused of pulling out a gun on another parent while on school property, according to Medina police.

Authorities said the incident started with a verbal altercation. The arrested suspect wanted the other adult to move their car from a parking spot. 

Police said the incident is still under investigation. No one was hurt. 

The suspect's gun was confiscated, authorities said, but police won't say if the gun was loaded or why type of gun it was. 

On the same day, according to the below statement from Medina City Schools, a routine Alice drill was conducted around the same time of the incident. 

The afternoon, a routine Alice drill was conducted at Medina High School at 1:45PM.  At dismissal time today at approximately 2:35 as the buses and students were leaving for the day, two parents were having a disagreement over a parking spot in one of the high school lots.  During the course of the disagreement, one of the parents displayed a gun of unknown origin.

The area was immediately secured and the Medina City Police Department was called.  At no time were students in danger and there were no reported injuries.  Police are currently addressing the adults involved in the incident.

Student safety is of the highest priority.  Any individuals that are associated with these threats will be dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
