BRUNSWICK, Ohio - On Thanksgiving Day, Saint Ambrose Parish in Brunswick will once again open its doors to the community. Volunteers will serve up their annual Thanksgiving Day Community Meal.
For the past six years, members of Saint Ambrose Parish have come together on Thanksgiving Day to serve meals to members of the community. This year, 450 volunteers from the parish and community are expected to serve more than 6,000 people on Thanksgiving.
"The growth of our Thanksgiving program is both a good and challenging reality," Father Bob Stec at the Saint Ambrose Parish said. "The reality is that more and more people have needs especially seniors on fixed incomes and single moms with children. The need continues to grow which has challenged and caused us to continue to find ways to respond to their needs."
Over the past six years, the Thanksgiving meal at Saint Ambrose has continued to grow. The number of locations where meals are served has grown too. This year, Thanksgiving meals will be served at Saint Ambrose, Guidestone Children's Home in Berea at 202 East Bagley Road, Saint Bernard Parish in Akron at 44 University Ave and Saint Rocco's Parish in Cleveland at 3205 Fulton Road.
"The growth is also an expression of the great goodness and compassion and generous spirit of our community and the good people in our area. They want to help. They want to create a community of compassion and concern for all who are in times of need," Stec said.
The Saint Ambrose Thanksgiving meal will take place from 11 o'clock Thanksgiving morning until 12:30 p.m. in Hilkert Hall.
