MEDINA, Ohio - Fire and ice combined for a breathtaking treat on the Square in Medina Friday evening.
The 20th annual Medina Ice Festival opened with ice sculpture demonstrations followed by the lighting of the Fire and Ice Tower lighting.
The tower is made from blocks of ice with its interior filled with wood. When ignited, what ensues is a battle between the two forced of nature. The ice chimney spouts fire into the night sky for amazed spectators.
Earlier in the evening, a speed ice carving display took place. During the remaining days of the festival, team and individual ice carving competitions take place.
The festival in downtown Medina runs through Monday.
