Brunswick's new K-9 officer is taking a bite out of crime

BRUNSWICK, Ohio - Brunswick police officer Mark Luciano has a new partner. Brunswick K-9 officer Nico is now on the job.

Former  Brunswick  K-9 Blackjack begins his retirement with Luciano.

His successor has picked up where Blackjack left off. Nico is a 19-month-old Belgian Malinois.

"He is certified to detect narcotics, also criminal patrol," said Luciano.

Nico has been on the job about three weeks."He had over 15 drug arrests so far," said Luciano. 

The Belgian Malinois was born in Holland and imported to Shallow Creek Kennels in Pennsylvania where the team training took place, police said.

Luciano and Nico will be taking a bite out of crime, working the department's 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift.
