Brunswick School Board will put new levy on May ballot

BRUNSWICK, Ohio - Brunswick voters will decide on a new school levy, after the Brunswick School board voted Tuesday to put a new 5.9 mill levy on the May 7 ballot.

If passed, the levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $181 annually or $15 per month. Treasurer Patrick East said this is the first new levy on the ballot since May 2006.

"I'm cautiously optimistic," said East. The voters in the community have been supportive in the past, he added.

Officials said in the past four years, the district has lost millions of dollars in taxes generated by local businesses coupled with state cuts in funding.

The district has already made $4 million in cuts. The Brunswick School District has been rated excellent by the state for the last seven years.
