MEDINA, Ohio - The mission of The Children's Center of Medina County is to help children. "When they come to the center and see the toys, they don't want to leave," said Executive Director Rhonda Wurgler.
The Children's Center of Medina county is a place where sexually and or physically abused children come for help. It's also serves as a meeting place for children in the foster system come for supervised visits with their biological parents.
Wurgler has only been the executive director for a few years, she used to be a sheriff's deputy. But she said she has now found her true calling. "I have a passion for kids," said Wurgler.
The center also runs a program called Adopt-A-Family. It is a program aimed at making the holidays special for children who have been through so much. They find gifts for all the children coming through the center as well as the Medina County Job and Family Services. This year, they hope to make the holidays a little brighter for more than 500 children. "Some of them have bad stories. For them to have normalcy at the holiday, this is nice for them," said Louise Brown, Board President.
Some gifts have started coming in, but the program could use more help. If you are interested in helping call 330-764-8891, extension 215 or email adoptafamily@MedinaCountyChildrensCenter.org.
