Woman posing as cop threatens to arrest Amherst store clerk, police say

AMHERST, Ohio - A woman posed as an Amherst police officer in order to exchange a pack of cigarettes, police said.

The clerk at the Sunoco station on Leavitt Road in Amherst told police on Thursday that a man bought a pack of cigarettes, left the store and then came back to exchange them.

The clerk said it is store policy not to return an item once the customer leaves the store. Police said the customer, who told the clerk his wife is a police officer, was asked to leave.

Amherst police said a woman came into the store and told the clerk she would be arrested if she didn't exchange the cigarettes. The woman flashed a badge and said she worked for the Amherst Police Department.

When the clerk went to call police, the woman left the store and drove away in a silver Chrysler 300. Police said they have no suspects.
