A woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle near the Lorain County Fair, and police have arrested a suspect.

On Aug. 28 around 9 p.m., Lorain County Sheriff's deputies working traffic control at the fair were told about a person hit by a vehicle on Fairgrounds Road just off the Fairground property.

Authorities said deputies found a woman severely injured and left in the roadway. Grafton Township and Wellington Fire Department EMS arrived to help. A medical helicopter was also called to the scene.

The woman, identified as a 38-year-old from Lorain, was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police the vehicle that hit the woman was a newer model Ford Mustang that was dark blue or black. The vehicle was seen leaving the Fairgrounds, heading north on Pitts Road.

Lorain County Sheriff's Office said around 9:20 p.m., the suspect vehicle hit a mailbox in the 47000 block of State Route 18. Then just after 10 p.m., the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle at a Burger King in Wellington, after leaving a third crash near US 20 and State Route 58.

Gregg Box, 61, of Strongsville, was identified by police as the driver. Box was arrested and taken to Lorain County Jail.

Box is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, felony leaving the scene of an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, and drug possession. An operating a vehicle while intoxicated charge was also filed against Box by the OSHP.
