A woman is fighting for her life and nine puppies are unaccounted for after a large fire destroyed a home in Elyria.
The fire broke out on a home on 11th Street just after midnight.
Elyria fire officials said one woman was rescued from the home. She was transported to Elyria Hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center with unknown injuries.
Fire crews believe she was trying to get small animals out of the second floor when she got trapped by heavy smoke.
Two dogs were able to escape. Nine puppies and an unknown number of birds are unaccounted for.
