VERMILION, Ohio - Police were investigating around the Vermilion High School area Friday after another parent reported that her son and a friend were approached by a man trying to coax them into his car.
Police said this is the third such incident reported over a five month period.
The mother reported that the two boys, ages 9 and 10, were riding their bicycles home from Sailorway Middle School when a man in a white van approached them. According to police, the boys said the man asked them to come to his van, then started following them as they rode off.
Police said the boys were approached around 2:25 p.m. as they rode their bikes east down Sailorway Drive and Sanford Street. They said the man was sitting at the intersection and told the 10-year-old, "come here, nice boy."
Authorities said the man tried again to get the boys unsuccessfully into his vehicle. Police said this incident matches two similar cases.
Back in May, a 10-year-old girl reported a man in a gray minivan pulled into the driveway of her home and tried to wave her over to the vehicle. She described the man as having gray hair and a Saint Bernard dog that resembled "Beethoven" from the movie. The man drove away when she walked into her home.
In June, a 16-year-old girl walking home from school said she was approached by a man with a mustache who asked her if she needed a ride home. She kept walking.
In that case, the girl said she saw the man's vehicle drive by her again as she walked with a friend.
According to police, both the girl and a bus driver who witnessed the incident said the vehicle the man was driving was a luxury-styled car like a Cadillac.
The girl also said the black two-door vehicle had chrome strip covering the trunk and tail lights. The bus driver described the man as white, in his 50s with brown and gray hair, plus facial hair.
In the latest attempted abduction, the girl described the suspect as a 65-year-old white man with a gray mustache, wearing a white baseball hat with blue lettering, dark sunglasses and a white T-shirt. The vehicle was a white work-type van with no side windows, but possible scratches on the rear doors.
