A man and a woman were arrested for allegedly setting a Cleveland home on fire in an attempt to receive financial assistance from the American Red Cross.
The Lorain Fire Department responded to a house fire on July 17 at 1746 Washington Avenue.
Fire officials spoke to Tiffany Mills and Jasper Kennedy who told officials they lived at the residence but had left for a short time. When they returned, they discovered their house was on fire.
The Lorain Fire Department and Lorain police discovered that Mills and Kennedy weren't living at the residence at the time of the fire.
After further investigation, it was discovered that Mills' step-father owned the house but it stood vacant after an electrical fire in February 2017.
Evidence shows Mills and Kennedy started the fire in an attempted to get money from the American Red Cross.
Some of the funds donated by the Red Cross were recovered, according to police.
The two were arrested Tuesday and charged with arson, theft and misuse of credit card.
