AVON - Police believe alcohol may have been a factor after a man shot his roommate in Avon early Saturday morning.

The Avon Police Department said they received a 911 call early Saturday morning, October 12, from a female stating that a male had been shot in the head. Officers from the Avon, Avon Lake and Sheffield Lake Police Departments responded to the scene of the residential home.

When they arrived on scene officers were able to locate a 29-year-old male in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. Another male, 25-year-old Ryan Raider, was leaning over the victim in an attempt to control the bleeding.

The victim was taken by Lifeflight to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Initial investigation reveals that Raider shot his roommate in the head and alcohol is believed to be a factor. Raider was taken into custody and is being held at the Lorain County Jail on charges of reckless homicide and weapons while intoxicated.

The name of the victim is currently being withheld pending family notification.
