One toddler is dead and another is hospitalized after they were pulled from a Lorain County swimming pool Wednesday morning, according to sheriff officials.
Lorain County Sheriff’s deputies said a resident found the toddlers in a swimming pool, shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The pool is located on West Road, south of State Route 303 in Pittsfield Township.
Deputies said the two victims are a girl and boy under the age of two. They were transported to Oberlin Mercy Allen Hospital, where the girl died. The boy was then flown to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland in critical condition. The children were cousins and both from the Wellington are.
It’s not yet clear how the children found their way into the pool nor is it clear how long they were in the pool before being found.
The incident is under investigation. Sheriff’s deputies said no charges have been filed at this time.
