More than 200 tested for TB Friday in Lorain County

Some businesses impacted by TB concerns

ELYRIA, Ohio - Business is picking up again at Cascade Cafe in Elyria.

"Yesterday was one of our worst days since we've been here," owner Anita Roig said.

The cafe sits next door to a bar frequented by a homeless man who recently tested positive for TB.  Since then, Mercy Hospital's TB clinic in Lorain has been screening people who may have come in contact with the man.

"For two days the streets were deserted,"Roig said. "There was nobody downtown."

Roig hopes this fear people have will not lead to a setback for all of the positive things she says are happening in Elyria, such as new businesses coming in and a farmer's market coming next month.

"It's a shame," she said. "The downtown has much more to offer than people think."

None of the 33 people tested earlier this week have an active case of TB. The clinic screened 213 additional people today.  Those results will be read on Monday.
