Millers 'Apple Hill ' in Lorain County is gearing up for another big season in the orchard

AMHERST, Ohio - One sure sign that fall is quickly approaching is that it is time to start picking apples.

Millers Apple Hill in Amherst is gearing up for a big weekend. The apples are plentiful and hanging off the trees waiting to be picked. If you're not into picking them, they will have your apples picked and ready to go.

Whatever type of apple you enjoy, most likely they have them in the orchard. They have over a dozen varieties growing.

Roger Miller has owned Apple Hill since 1986 and the Miller orchards have been around since the 1860s. He is a fifth generation apple farmer and just loves seeing the smile on the kids faces.

"They grow up and bring their kids and then they grow up and bring their kids. It gets to be a family tradition," said Miller.

This weekend, with weather permitting, you can catch a wagon ride into the fields. Pumpkin Land will open, where the kids can go through a hay maze and check out some scarecrows and animals such as a donkey, goats, rabbits and turkeys.

If you're looking for something to do with the family, "Miller"s Apple Hill" is a scenic drive on the western part of Lorain County at the intersection of State Route 113 (Telegraph Road) and Vermillion Road.
