Man hands Lorain police chief human skull; Police say it could be Native American artifact

LORAIN, Ohio - It was a first-of-its-kind delivery in the lobby of the Lorain Police Department.

A man walked in and handed a plastic bag to the police chief; inside the bag was a human skull.

Police said an archeologist told them a man tried to sell him the skull. But he advised the man selling human remains is illegal and offered to take the skull to police.

Police said they believe the skull could be an Indian artifact from a collector or old museum. It could be a couple hundred years old.

Lorain Police Lt. Roger Watkins said there appears to be nothing criminal about the skull. The Lorain County Coroner's office will examine it just to be sure.

The police will contact a Native American heritage center on how to proceed.
