A North Ridgeville man was charged with murder Wednesday in connection with the shooting death of his live-in girlfriend.

Randy Hamilton, 50, called North Ridgeville police on Tuesday around 10 p.m. from the Avon Belden Road home he lived in. In that 911 recording, a dispatcher said Hamilton "advised he shot his wife."

"Send the cops now, please," he then told a dispatcher. "Send the ambulance. Send everything, please."

The victim, Michelle Ryals, 45, was later described by police as Hamilton's live-in girlfriend. Ryals owned the home. Ryals was a long-time employee of The Cleveland Clinic, most recently working as an information systems analyst.

Hamilton surrendered to police in the garage of the home. Police found Ryal's body inside.

Hamilton has a history of violent criminal convictions in Lorain County dating back to at least 1992, including a 2010 domestic violence conviction in North Ridgeville, and a 2002 negligent assault conviction in Elyria.
