Lorain mom out of jail, 5 kids taken after police find them in deplorable conditions alone at home

LORAIN, Ohio - A Lorain mom is out of jail, but her five children were taken from her after police found them home alone, without food or water in deplorable conditions.

Police said a neighbor contacted them Sunday saying five kids were home alone inside a duplex apartment on Colorado Avenue in "terrible" living conditions.

Their mother, 22-year-old Osiris Boyer, was arrested and charged with five counts of child endangering.

According to investigators, Boyer left a 17-year-old neighbor, whom she barely knew, in charge of her children while she ran to the store.

The teen told police he didn't know anything about babysitting small kids.

When police got there the children, ages 1-4, were alone inside the apartment. Police said Boyer claimed she'd only left the apartment for a few minutes.

"Officers checked the house and found that it was filthy. No food in the refrigerator, mattresses on the floor, the worst part probably was there was a bathtub partially filled with water several inches. The water was filthy and had food in it and all kinds of things in the water. The children were playing in that water and any of them could've easily drowned in that tub," explained Lorain police Lt. Mark Carpentiere.

Children Services has an open case involving Boyer. According to Lorain Municipal Court documents, Boyer has multiple criminal convictions, including resisting arrest, criminal mischief, aggravated menacing and theft in 2003 and 2004.

She also has a domestic violence conviction from 2009.

For now, Lorain Police said the children are with their father in Avon.
