Longtime Elyria diner plans to close

Despite national publicity that drew crowds

Elyria, Ohio - After 14 years in downtown Elyria, Donna's Diner is closing at the end of the month.

The walls are filled with pictures of customers who became friends of Donna's over the years.

Donna Dove served up home cooking meals, including homemade soups and fish fry Friday's.

Customer's favorites include the Donna Burger, Chicken Paprikash and most recently Prime Rib dinners.

It feels like the kind of hometown place that would be around forever, especially after a feature article less than two years ago in the New York Times about the ups and downs of small town businesses.

The article on Donna's Diner led to a surge in business, as people came from all over.

But the last year brought fewer customers into the diner, making it hard to pay the bills.

Donna isn't sure why few people are coming in, part of her feels it's just time to say goodbye.

However, she said Wednesday she is having second thoughts about closing, but she's pretty sure February 28 will be her last day and the place is for sale.
